Homogenization of corrugated web and modelling of corrugated steel shear walls

Advanced composites are finding wide acceptance for various engineering applications due to their greater flexibility in design space and better strength to weight ratio. However, the thermo-mechanical properties and performance of these composites are also dependent on their manufacturing process. The degradation of material properties under environmental factors pose another challenge.

In this direction, our group works with the design and optimization of functionally graded, additively manufactured, and variable angle tow (VAT) composites with consideration of their manufacturing limitations and defects. Our group is modelling the variable stiffness thin-walled and shell composite panels for optimizing their buckling load. We aim to explore such designs to flutter resistant panels and optimized aircraft fuselage. We have also developed machine learning based predictive models for hygrothermal aging of composites specially for tidal turbine blades.
